I have an iPhone 6. Earlier today I accidentally clicked on an inappropriate website on my iPhone and then I’ve got a ukash phishing message titled with data://(null) in my safari browser which blocked my Internet access. It said “ATTENTION! Your mobile device has been blocked up for safety reasons. AUDIO AND VIDEO RECORDING IN PROGRESS. Amount of fine is 250$. You can settle the fine with PayPal My Cash Cards. TYPE YOUR CODE (250$ PayPal My Cash Card) AND PRESS ‘OK'” If I clicked Cancel, I got a long list of places where I can use PayPal. If I clicked OK on that, it just keeps repeating the same screen. Rebooting does not cure the problem but I am still able to use other apps. The data://(null) message also said that if I don’t pay for the fine it will block my Apple ID and my phone in 24 hours. I am really scared because I don’t know if this pop-up is real or just a virus. Is this a common thing? How to safely remove this virus?
What is data://(null) virus on iPad/iPhone?
According to news reports and complaints on Apple Support forums, owners of iPhones and iPads are having their Safari or Chrome locked by a data://(null) virus message. The hacks appear to affect mainly iPhone and iPad users in Australia, UK and Canada, though there are reports of similar incidents in the US and other European countries. Data://(null) message is considered to be a part of Ransomware that is similar to Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) Ukash virus in Canada, Australian Federal Police Ukash virus in Australia, and FBI virus in United States. This scam has been running for a number of months and certainly isn’t new. However, the attack is still going on because the scammers are trying to get as much money as possible from the innocent users.
